They mulled over the idea for a while and decided that Northwest Indiana needed a place to buy a nice suit. The two knew nothing about the clothing business. When they contacted some vendors for information things didn’t go well. No one would take them seriously – one salesman finally gave them 20 bucks, told them to stop at a bar on the way home, and instructed them to use the money to drink until they forgot about their crazy idea.
Fortunately, John and Jay were never particularly good at taking advice and, instead, decided to rent a small storefront in Highland. John worked at the store fulltime and Jay worked nights and weekends. Jay continued delivering milk by day to support both men’s families. To help with cash flow, they sub-rented tuxedos from Dunhill, until 1969, when Dunhill’s owner retired and sold them the business.
As business grew Jay joined Dunhill fulltime. They expanded to dry cleaning and opened several Dunhill branches in Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. Their sons continue to run Dunhill. They love what they do and are thrilled that their dads got out of the milk delivery business.
Dunhill knows about special days. We live them every weekend. We are masters in the wedding and prom business. We do what we love. And we know that saving men from themselves is what we do best.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
